4.1 Fuzzy Geolocation

For the Village Network (community discovery feature), we use "fuzzy geolocation" to protect your privacy:

  • Your exact address is never collected or stored
  • We only use your city and state to find nearby parents
  • Displayed distances are approximate and randomized within ~3 miles
  • Other users cannot determine your exact location

4.2 Location Control

You have full control over your location visibility:

  • Choose whether to enable Village Network discovery
  • Update your location at any time
  • Make your profile private to disable discovery

5. Children's Data and COPPA

5.1 Children Are Not Users

Important: Children profiles on Kinroot are data entries that you, the parent, create and manage. Children are not users of the Service and do not have accounts, passwords, or the ability to log in.

5.2 COPPA Compliance

Because children do not use or access Kinroot, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requirements for obtaining verifiable parental consent do not apply. You, the parent, are the sole user and have complete control over all children's data.

5.3 Data You Manage

Children's information you may choose to enter includes:

  • Name and age (for organizing your calendar and activities)
  • Medical information (allergies, medications - stored securely, never shared)
  • Activity preferences (to help you plan schedules)

This information is private to your account and is never shared with other users or third parties without your explicit consent.

6. How We Share Your Information

6.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

  • Email Service: Transactional emails (password resets, notifications)

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and only use it to provide services to us.

If you choose to use the Village Network, certain information becomes visible to other users:

  • Display name and profile photo (if provided)
  • Approximate location (city/state)
  • Parenting situation and interests (if you choose to share)

  • Comply with legal obligations or court orders
  • Protect our rights, property, or safety
  • Prevent fraud or security incidents
  • Protect the safety of our users or the public

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
  • Authentication: Secure password hashing and optional OAuth (Google)
  • Access Control: Row-level security ensures you only access your own data
  • Security Headers: CSP, X-Frame-Options, and other protective headers
  • Regular Updates: We keep our infrastructure and dependencies up to date

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
